slashsound’s dark techno imprint ELEMENTAL/SPEED issues two tracks by label founders RETCON and I-VT. The two tracks are remixes constructed entirely from samples of broken band and orchestra instruments from the Philadelphia public school system, which were recorded as part of a project by Bang on a Can's Found Sound Nation and David Lang to raise money for repairing the instruments.
This release comes with a free Ableton Live Pack by IVT featuring a drum rack and the "TuBa303" acid bass instrument made (from tuba samples) used in the production.
All samples provided by Found Sound Nation and Symphony For A Broken Orchestra. David Lang's composition "Symphony for a Broken Orchestra" was commissioned by Temple Contemporary at The Tyler School of Art. Major support is provided by The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage, with additional support from the Barra Foundation.
